ASP News 29/09/08 - 2008/09/29 18:57 ASP World Title Heads to Mundaka
The waiting period for the Billabong Pro Mundaka, event No. 9 on the 2008 ASP World Tour, begins this week, all eyes are on Kelly Slater and ASP World Title No. 9. Permanent ASP Fixture Al Hunt has broken down the scenarios for Slater clinching in Spain in this week’s Situation Room, and with an altered format, new backup location and former ASP World Champion Mark Occhilupo in the draw, things could get interesting.


ASP WQS Situation Room – Monday, September 29, 2008
A recovering breath last week for the ASP WQS, but that certainly didn’t prevent a swath of action going down within the world of professional surfing. The absence of ’QS events ensured that all eyes were on Kelly Slater and his near miss of the ASP World Title in France. The inevitable seems to be happening any event now, but the truly interesting fight now goes to the ASP Top 45 and the requalification campaign. This week, we took a look a who’s on the bubble, and what they need to accomplish to ensure that they’re back on the Dream Tour in 2009.


Jeremy Flores: A Look Inside
Jeremy Flores (Capbreton/New Caledonia, FRA) may not have succeeded in winning the Quiksilver Pro France last week in Seignosse, but he still remains the best French and European surfer among the ASP Top 45 and will once again be leading the assault with fellow Europeans Aritz Aranburu (Zarautz, EUK), Tiago Pires (Ericeira, PRT) and Miky Picon (FRA). ASP Europe’s Gregoire Puget caught up with the young natural-footer to see what goes on inside the head of the world’s best.


Mundaka Format Change by Surfline
It’s been a whirlwind week for the ASP World Tour. There was no shortage of action at the Quiksilver Pro France, Dane sizzled, Kelly came just shy of clinching ASP World Title No. 9 and Adrian "Ace" Buchan claimed his first career Dream Tour win. Well, this week, we’re heading south to the renowned Spanish lefthander of Mundaka and the Billabong Pro Mundaka is undergoing some changes this year.
