ASP WQS Situation Room - Monday, November 10, 2008 Well folks, we are down to the nitty gritty. The final leg of the season and our guys and girls who have been campaigning so hard all year have only a sparse few more opportunities to turn their dreams into a reality in 2009. For the girls, this week marks the start of the ASP WQS 6-Star Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa and the last opportunity for those on the bubble to make a push for next season. On the men’s side of things, Haleiwa will host an ASP WQS 6-Star PRIME before following up with another ASP WQS 6-Star PRIME at the O’Neill World Cup at Sunset Beach. Hawaii is notoriously harsh on qualifying campaigners, but there are enough points up for grabs that we may see some fireworks. Get ready for the show… Bonga Perkins Claims Second ASP World Longboard Title The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Longboard Tour (WLT) crowned Bonga Perkins (HAW), 36, the 2008 ASP World Longboard Champion at the Oxbow World Longboard Tour event at San Onofre State Beach over fellow finalist Antoine Delpero (FRA), 23. This year’s title is Perkins’ second ASP World Longboard Championship, with the other win coming in 1996. Gilmore Up for Australian Sports Performer of the Year Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 20, reigning ASP Women’s World Champion and current No. 2 on the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour, has just battled out the rest of the ASP Top 17 to claim the 2008 Movistar Classic Mancora Peru pres. by Rip Curl, but her home country of Australia is busy honoring her... Bede’s Blog: A Victory So Sweet Now that’s what I call a great week! I mentioned in my last blog that it was a real slog to get from Australia to Brazil in terms of jet lag and impact on the body clock, but winning is the perfect antidote. I’m so stoked to have taken out the Hang Loose Pro. It’s my third career win on the ASP World Tour, pushed me to No. 2 on the rankings behind… Dane Reynolds Ankle Injury Video Dane Reynolds (USA), 23, 2008 ASP World Tour rookie and one of the most electrifying surfers on the planet, is a welcome addition to the Dream Tour this season. Unfortunately, an ankle injury sustained in France whilst filming for The Modern Collective has sidelined the progressive natural-footer. Recently, Dane took to his website to explain the injury via video. Bugs on the ASP World Longboard Title and Gilmore Rebounds in Peru The world’s longboarding aficionados are gathered at the legendary San Onofre for the final event on the Oxbow World Longboard Tour. Some time between November 5 & 9 a new ASP World Longboard Champion will be crowned. The Oxbow boasts a star-studded line-up, the best of the best are in town to strut their stuff and enjoy classic late Fall conditions at a place that has seen more longboarding action then anywhere on… Upcoming Events Event Event Type Date Location Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro ASP World Tour October 28 – November 5, 2008 Santa Catarina, Brazil Billabong Pipeline Masters ASP World Tour December 8 - 20, 2008 Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii Roxy Pro ASP Women’s World Tour November 24 – December 6, 2008 Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii Billabong Pro Maui ASP Women’s World Tour December 8 - 20, 2008 Honolua Bay, Maui, Hawaii Reef Hawaiian Pro ASP WQS 6-Star PRIME Men/ 6-Star Women November 12 - 23, 2008 Haleiwa, Oahu, Hawaii PXM International Vans Pro ASP WQS 3-Star Men November 12 - 16, 2008 Puerto Escondido, Mexico O’Neill World Cup ASP WQS 6-Star PRIME Men November 24 – December 6, 2008 Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii
