Coffs harbour fishing - 2008/11/11 12:04 No joy this past weekend for the Game Fishing competition with ocean conditions causing fishing to be called off, but the BBQ's went down well anyway. Its a real shame because there is good temperatures and current outside. If your not onto it yet the F.A.D. is deployed at 30 14.858 E 153 21.605 S. Sure enough as soon as the last boat makes it's way home the sea will come friendly. For those land based game fisher folk the time is here to float a live bait off a headland. If your using a balloon this season consider using latex ones. I'm told they are more bio-degradable than the other type and we all know how much turtles and the like tend eat rubbish and get themselves in strife so give them a break if you can. If you want to check out a turtle at work and play they can often be spotted in the shallows at the east end of the marina chomping on the weed around the rocks there. Speaking of the marina, Nichole from Coffs Bait and Tackle picked up a nice Spangled Emperor and from what I've heard over the past week she is not the only one catching these lovely table fish in the marina.
Around the Rocks the headlands have given up salmon, heaps of bream and even tailor. Bonito and frigates have been spotted around the place but i have no reports of catches yet. The beaches are showing the first signs of a good whiting run, with reports of 40cm plus fish. Aaron Toms got amongst them off the north wall and fed the family. Mullaway are seemingly quiet though Steve Cleary pulled a nice one tipping the scales at 14kg.
The Brag and Release Tournament is ticking along and Steve Worley posted some nice pictures to the web site http://s365.photobucket.com/albums/oo96/Coffs_Bait_and_Tackle/ . We are still looking for winners in the juniors and adults. This month its Bream and Flathead. Competitors have until midnight the 30th of this month to get all their pictures in. Dont be shy.
We may get lucky with the weather ahead, the northern jet is dragging moisture across northern Australia, and is helping cause storms in the tropics. The southern jet is keeping fronts and cold air south of the mainland leaving our area in the relatively calm middle. Fingers crossed any way for some good fishing conditions.
