Re:Europe Sailing - 2008/07/23 07:16
Hi Everyone,
I'm just sitting in the airport about to go to France for the final regatta of my trip this year which is the Youth Europeans. I thought I would quickly compile some of my thoughts and reflections on the Senior Europeans while I have a chance as I am going to be straight back into regatta preparation over the next few days. Three days ago I finished the Senior Europeans which were sailed in a seaside town called Nieuwpoort on the cost of Belgium. It was one of the tougher regattas I have done, right up there with the physicality of the Senior worlds in Terrigal and was also really tough in terms of the level of competition. With a really testing few days at the start of the regatta where basically I was all over the place, capsizing, scoring Black Flag Disqualifications and making silly errors left right and centre, I had to really focus hard if I was going to have a chance of recovering in the regatta. Luckily, I got my head together and sailed really well over the remaining 8 races in the series, moving from 100th after day two to a respectable 54th in the overall standings at the end of the event. Once again I have come away from the regatta with mixed feelings, and have to remind myself that each of these tough European Regattas is all part of the process. I'm learning so many new things and trying to impliment them all at once, which of course is always going to be a little testing. It is definately easy to lose sight of the big picture, however on reflection I think I now have everything pretty well in perspective. I'm really excited to get out there again next week in the Youth Europeans, in fact I'm very resltess just sitting here waiting to get over there and get down to business. Thanks to my supporters, Erik Stibbe/NSWIS, Noakes Youth, NB Laser and Hobie Sports, Ask Huey eyewear, Brendan/Sail Equipment Australia, family and friends.
