Dear Member,
As you might be aware Windsurfing Queensland is currently re-structuring, basically Wq is going to allow incorporated clubs to affiliate and will no longer be taking memberships directly. WQ will offer those clubs public Indemnity insurance for their member’s trough the AWA national policy.
What this means for the “windwanderers”, is the need to form a committee and become an affiliated club. These items are currently underway.
Today I was additionally made aware that during this period which started at the beginning of this month, the club has no insurance cover to hold meets and that as a club, we cannot currently offer an indemnity policy to members as part of their yearly membership.
Although I was made aware of the need to affiliate toward the end of last season, I was not fully aware of the implications this would impose on the club during the period of this change.
Furthermore, additional requirements were outlined to me “today” by Windsurfing QLD which will need to be met in order to achieve affiliation and gain access to the appropriate insurances.
For the club moving forwards……
Now that I have been made aware that the clubs members currently aren't entitled to insurance as part of their membership and that as an organiser I am also currently no longer coverered by insurance, I have had to take the tough decision to put the windwanderers on hold until this can be rectified.
I am currently working towards achieivng both the initial requirements placed on me by Windsurfing QLD plus the additional requirements asked of me this evening. this may however take a few weeks.
I will keep all members and supporters of the club informed of the progress and forward my sincerest apologies for this outcome.
Although extremely disappointing I will cut through the red tape.
