Fantasy Surfer: Rip Curl Pro Search “Somewhere” Are we going left or right? Is it a beachie or a reef? Heavy-water monster or playful pointbreak? The upcoming Rip Curl Pro Search “Somewhere”, stop No. 6 of 11 on the 2008 ASP World Tour, is gearing up for action and all you Fantasy Surfer humans had better get your affairs in order. Keeping the location tight-lipped thus far this season, we can only look to past venues of Rip Curl’s Search events as clues: the peeling lefthander of St. Leu in Reunion Island (2005), the Kirra-esque “La Jolla” in mainland Mexico (2006), and the slabby doom-bringer of Chile’s El Gringo (2007). Choose wisely… Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better Well, last week we saw TMZ.com, the foremost authority on celebrity news in the world, have a look at the boys on the ASP World Tour, so it was only a matter of time before they directed their star-studded gaze at the ladies of the ASP Women’s World Tour. Have a look for yourself to see the Dream Tour campaigners in amongst the stars of Hollyweird… Huntington Beach Invasion The ASP WQS is kicking into full swing with the first of six big-time events, the ASP WQS 6-Star Honda U.S. Open of Surfing pres. by O’Neill, has hit the water with the Trials completed over the weekend and Round 1 of the main event hitting the water today. The event will be a pivotal point in the qualification season, with athletes hoping to net results here before heading to Japan, England, France and Portugal. Catch all the action. Hawaiian ASP World Champion! The Roxy ASP Women’s World Longboarding Championships culminated in Biarritz, France last week and Hawaiian Joy Monahan, 22, took the title back to the islands, defeating Australian Chelsea Williams in the Final. The Californians have dominated the past two years, but Monahan’s superior rail work and commanding nose-riding proved tops in the picturesque beachbreaks of France and Hawaii has a new ASP World Champion. ASP WQS Situation Room - Monday, July 21, 2008 Congratulations go out to Hawaiian Flynn Novak for taking out the inaugural ASP WQS 1-Star Macy’s E-Series in Hawaii last week. Although the surf was pumping, the ASP WQS 1-Star rating did little to affect the current ASP WQS standings, but that will all change this week with the ASP WQS 6-Star Honda U.S. Open of Surfing pres. by O’Neill. There are some massive points up for grabs so gird your loins people!
