ASP News 12/08/08 - 2008/08/15 10:11 ASP WQS Situation Room – Monday, August 11, 2008
The ASP WQS 5-Star Rip Curl Boardmasters in Newquay, England has come and gone and congratulations to Brazil’s Wiggolly Dantas for claiming the win and reigning ASP World Junior Champion Pablo Paulino for his runner-up finish. Everyone, aside from current ASP WQS ratings leader Nathaniel Curran (USA), inside the Top 25 has moved, and we’ve only scratched the surface of our incendiary European leg! Big things have happened and with back-to-back-to-back massive ’QS events lined up like hurricanes, expect even bigger things on the horizon.

Sally Seals
It’s official. Young Ms. Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) has sealed the 2008 ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS). With just four events to go, three ASP WQS 4-Star events and one ASP WQS 6-Star event, Fitzgibbons has amassed too many points for her rivals to overtake her and she can rest easy about her place amongst the world’s finest in 2009. In qualifying, Fitzgibbons has also joined former ASP World Junior Champions-turned-Dream Tour campaigners Nicola Atherton (AUS) and Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS), further cementing Billabong ASP World Junior Championship’s reputation as the premier breeding ground for future surf stars.

Decompressing from Somewhere
The boys are all currently decompressing from ‘Somewhere’ in Indonesia right now, and after some hard yakka at the Rip Curl Pro Search, the ASP Top 45 are scattering all over the South Pacific in search of waves, romance, adventure and good times. The reports are flooding in, so be sure to check ASPWorldTour.com frequently for the freshest content on the world’s best surfers.

Surfer Poll – Get Off Ya Arse!
Okay kids, the countdown has begun. Just a couple more days until voting is finished so get out there and vote for your favorite ASP Top 45 and ASP Top 17 surfers and be counted. The Surfer Poll will be held in early September in California so don’t come crying to us if your favorite Dream Tour competitors aren’t recognized. Get up and vote!

Catching Up With ASP North America's Top Qualifiers
With the European leg of the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) well underway, campaigners for the 2009 Dream Tour are out in force. 2008 has been a banner year for ASP North America surfers thus far, with 4 surfers sitting in the current Top 15. Surfline recently caught up with California standouts Patrick Gudauskas (San Clemente) and Nathaniel Curran (Oxnard) to see where their heads are at after the midway point.
