Re:Forster Tuncurry Fishing Report April 2010 - 2010/04/30 07:34 Forster/Tuncurry Fishing Report
30 April 2010
Estuary: With the weather reports showing all signs of perfect fishing conditions over the weekend anglers should head out and chase those bream that have really started to swarm the racks and the cockle beds. All reports received this week is that nice bream are being landed on both small “chunk” style lures or baits. The best baits to chase these perfect dinner fish is either Mullet Gut or strip Stripy Tuna Fillets. The faithful Chicken Gut is always a good backstop.
A few reports of Whiting hanging around the bridge at night - Day fishing for these is not proving successful.
Still a few Jews’ on the breakwall with some photo evidence of two nice 30lb fish caught on live Slimy’s during the night.
Blackfish are still plentiful along the Harbour shoreline.
Rock: My store reporters plus the local media will tell you that Mullet are running fast up the coast in the tonnes. I suspect that larger fish will be following these in their annual migration north chasing the warmer water. Amongst these fish are tailor and good bream. Down off Charlottes the boys have picked up some nice Drummer, however the longtail are still few and far between. A couple of nice female Spearo’s have come into the store and reported plenty of Kings around the Tanks.
Offshore: A lot of just legal Mahi Mahi out at the FAD. Plenty of nice Flathead on the gravelbeds during the day with a few reports of Trag at night. Bonito and Mack Tuna are around in big numbers on most of the reefs and along the headlands.
Still plenty of Reds both North and South at either Seal Rocks or up off Blackhead Bowling Club on the close reefs.
Beach: All beached fishing well with the gutters full of Tailor and Bream. A few reports of Shovelnose Sharks on both Nine Mile and Seven Mile beaches. Keep these if you catch one – the tails make a delicious meal.
