Synoptic chart for Friday, 30th July 2010
A trough is crossing the interior and east, spreading rain, showers and storms into NSW, VIC and QLD. A cold front is approaching SA, causing winds and showers to increase in the southeast. A slim ridge over the east is allowing areas of thick fog.
The northern jet is broad and strong over the southern half of the country, helping to feed moisture into a trough. The polar jet is keeping the coldest air well south of the mainland.
