For all of NSW Waters and for Sydney Closed Waters
Issued at 3:40 am EST on Friday 22 August 2008
Synoptic situation
A cold front is moving along the central coast expected to reach Seal Rocks by
the afternoon and far north coast in the evening. A low is expected to form off
the central coast Friday afternoon, increasing winds along the coasts. During
Saturday the low is expected to deepen increasing winds further before moving
away from the coast later.
UPDATED Gale Warning
For the South Coast From Gabo Island to Ulladulla
SW/SE winds 25/33 knots increasing 34/40 knots Friday afternoon, chiefly
offshore. Seas 2 to 3 metres rising to 3 to 4 metres Friday afternoon. Swell
about 1 metre increasing to about 3 metres Saturday.
UPDATED Gale Warning
For the Sydney and Illawarra Coast From Ulladulla to Broken Bay
S/SW winds increasing to 25/33 knots during Friday afternoon and to 34/40 knots
later Friday, chiefly offshore . Seas rising to 2 to 3 metres Friday afternoon
and to 3 to 4 metres later. Swell about 1 metre increasing to about 3 metres
Saturday.
Gale Warning
For the Far North Coast, Mid North and Hunter Coast From Broken Bay to Point
Danger
S/SW winds increasing south of Wooli to 25/33 knots later Friday afternoon and
evening and extending to Point Danger overnight. Winds increasing further to
34/40 knots, chiefly offshore by Saturday afternoon. Seas rising to 2 to 3
metres by early Saturday and to 3 to 4 metres Saturday afternoon. Swell about 1
metre increasing to about 3 metres Saturday.
Strong Wind Warning
For Sydney Closed Waters, For Pittwater, Port Jackson and Botany Bay
S'ly wind increasing to 25/30 knots Friday afternoon. Waters becoming very
choppy.
The next warning will be issued by 11 am EST Friday.
Please be aware
Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here,
